# Page 23 neutron-remap audit

## Historical proposal

A March 2017 Cipherbrain commenter proposed entering the periodic table
with each Page-23 atomic number, leaving it with the neutron count, and
mapping that number back through the periodic table. The idea is relevant
because the signed note immediately beneath the matrix prints the nuclear
magic numbers `2, 8, 20, 28, 50, 82, ...`.

The proposal itself is a community hypothesis, not an author-selected rule.

## What was checked

- Retained full-result cases: `30`.
- Inputs varied the signed/reversed Page-23 orientations, five documented
  row-9 variants, and three explicit isotope-mass rules.
- Faithful channel: neutron count -> element with that atomic number ->
  element-symbol initial.
- Fallback channel: neutron count modulo 26, under both alphabet origins.

## Result

Every retained case has `33` of 154 cells
outside the periodic table and `0` complete
rows. The decisive recurring obstruction is uranium: its usual mass number
238 gives 146 neutrons, but no element has atomic number 146. The signed
matrix contains uranium `18` times.

The modulo-26 fallback has `60` scored strings;
all have a Turkish-language null percentile of `0.0`.
Its high repetition is an alphabet-collapse artifact, not readable prose.

Only the subset `20, 50, 82, 126` occurs among the derived neutron counts;
`2, 8, 28` do not. That does not reproduce the signed sequence.

## Boundary

This is a negative result for this exact proton-in/neutron-out family. It
does not prove that Page 23 has no other operation or that the nuclear
numbers have no thematic role.
