# Page 23 classical-cipher battery

A pre-registered battery scored route reads, columnar transposition, keyed columnar hill-climbs, Vigenere, Beaufort, affine transforms, and sampled invertible 2x2 Hill keys against a held-out Turkish control.

- Pass rule: `B19 char5 >= -3.4331 and a clear matched-null margin`.
- Candidates scored: `63`; unscoreable alphabet-breaking candidates: `13`.
- Passes: `0`.
- Baseline / best score: `-4.8661`; the best output is the unchanged matrix itself.
- Best keyed-columnar scores: width 11 `-6.4544`, width 14 `-7.8438`.
- Sampled invertible 2x2 Hill keys: `17472`; none stayed in the matrix alphabet.

The elevated repeat periods are explained by the 14-column grid, not a recoverable Vigenere period. This is a negative result for the stated classical families, not proof that the page has no other operation.
